Memories from back home (Part II)

Alrights my friends. I'm blogging about you guys! Just wanted to know that everyone back home is not forgotten =)

S12A. Wonder how is everyone doing?

Seriously, after 1.5 yrs of "retirement" from Welfare dept, I still think Welfare is the best! Josie would gladly attest to this, wouldn't he? =p

Blazer QMs! We're always the best!

Wes acting cute together with me =) He's my best working partner!

Dance peeps =) I miss them too...

Charms who was in Dance with me for 6 yrs!

My Honey Qing! She's the best dance partner I could ever ask for.

And the most aggressive, efficient president I've ever met! ~ Xiu Wen

Ok. I'm just feeling bored in my dorm now and I'm tired of studying for the whole evening. I guess the 9-months break after A levels made me lazy...

Things are getting better these few days, I'm starting to make more friends and cool friends! JoAnn and Dave are one of my closest friends in States so far. I think they would have agreed about this point too. Haha. At least we laugh all the time, which is good =)

The ventilator in my room connects to my neighbour's room. So... we can hear everything that is being said. This is bad. Tsk tsk, no privacy at all.

Anyways, I'm starting to appreciate the Chinese language, esp Chinese songs. Somehow Chinese songs make me feel more at home. It's a good thing that we have Baidu. 万岁百度!!! Else I wouldn't know what to do without Chinese songs.

Orientation

Orientation was OK. It was a day jam-packed with speeches and speeches and speeches and a few games.

Tomorrow's first day of school. I guess it would mean a new life for me too! I'm nervous cos I don't know anyone from my class yet. If you were me, would you just freak out?

I'm having "Intro to Western Civilization" tomorrow as my first lesson. I seriously cannot stand History. But it's one the prerequisite courses...

And then I'll have Financial Accounting after that at 10am. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Oh yesh I need to get my textbooks real soon! Most of my friends spent around 800 American dollars on textbooks only! There goes my money... =(

And finally I hope they give me credits for A levels subjects. Well... I'm only seeing the person in charge tomorrow. Yeap. Everything's still in a mess.

Move-In Time!

Moving in day was tiring. Well, I think I can't complain much since Chad, my sister's friend helped me carry my 2 big gigantic bags weighing 49.5kg in total...

Entrance to my dorm room... That is Chad in the middle.

My study table. What was I looking at? No idea seriously...

Haub Business School Entrance

Actually, Philly's kind of cool now given that summer has not really ended. My school's rather small. School population is about 4000 plus, inclusive of grad school I think. That means everyone knows everyone and you can gain a reputation pretty fast. Aha! I better watch what I'm doing and saying.

I miss home. I miss my mummy. I guess I can't call myself a big girl yet...

Everything's new here. Gotta keep right on the roads, pathments etc. I almost knocked down an old lady with my trolley in the shopping mall when I was walking happily on the left side while checking out foodies on my left.

I'm still trying to adjust to everything. People here are really friendly. "What's up" and "How are you doing?" are common phrases on campus. But somehow I haven't really found friends whom I'm comfortable with.

I miss home!

Sweet memories from back home (part I)

"Some memories are realities, and are better than anything that can happen to one again." - Willa Cather

Kiat and I at Cameron Highlands. Isn't the view pretty?

Can you believe this? These are cameron apples.

In Genting Highland's cable car...

Social Nitez...

And not forgetting the sushis! haha. this is random. -_-

Touchdown

Customs customs customs! Well.. for those reading this and have no idea about customs regulations in the states, it works this way. You've got to get down of the plane, go through immigration and collect your bags for customs check, redeposit your bag if you are continuing your journey to elsewhere in the states. All these happen at your first port of entry to states.

Imagine me transiting at San Francisco and I had only 3 hours before the next flight. So I chiong-ed like a madwoman the moment I stepped out of the plane. Rushed for the shortest queue at the immigration. Well, it was not exactly short, given that another flight came in at the same time. But heng ah! Minutes later, I looked back and I saw a spirally queue behind me! Looks like Singapore's Kiasuism culture came in handy eh?

Well.. the real touchdown happened roughly 8-9 hrs after customs. Pretty smooth. The only thing I'm unhappy about is that my 2 gigantic bags with all my belongings in them were delayed. AGAIN. The last time I came to the states, all 6 of my family's bags were delayed. What is wrong with the system anyways? Haiz...

So much for my touchdown in States...

Journey to States... Continuation

Do I really look like a non-English speaking Chinese girl from far far away land? Seriously, I think so.

Aha! But not until I opened my mouth to say "Hello". The American lady sitting beside me during my journey from Tokyo to San Francisco was pleasantly surprised when I spoke English!

"Wow! You can speak good English..."
"Erm... yes. We studied that right from Elementary school."

Kudos to the Malaysia's and Singapore's schooling system for making me trilingual =)

Lol. And there was another amusing experience when I was waiting for my next transit flight. An American baby came right up to me the moment I took my seat at the lounge. I was thinking about my parents when he kept saying " AAAA.... AII.... AIA!" Wow. How on earth did he know that my parents work for AIA?!?! Amazing baby! Haha.. anyways, I think it was just coincidental.

That baby stood next to me like I've got foodies and toys for him but I haven't got any! All he did was to repeat the words "AAA, AIA". And all I could do was to smile back idiotically.

"How come he's so nice to strangers and so nasty to his own family members?" quipped his sister.

Well... I guess it was my smile that made him so pleasant? heh.

Transit in Singapore

It's 5am now. I'm just trying to kill time by blogging about my journey to the states so far =) So far no hiccups. Just missing home a little bit... Home is after all the nicest place to be at! I just want to thank Jonny, JunLi, Amelia, YanZhen, Josie, my honey HuiQing and XiuWen for coming to see me during my transit here in Singapore. (Though I must admit it was at such unearthly hours) and your presence was greatly appreciated! Oh and I must also thank Yan Zhen for her mooncakes. Heh... I shared them with the others cos I knew I couldnt possibly finish them alone! Hope you don't mind Yan Zhen =)

* oppss... yan zhen is not this pic...

And yes, Jonny, Josie, HuiQing. I will try to stay awake and sleep only at 10am to adjust my body... Inflight movies, here I come!

Jonny, Huiqing and Josie... staying up to 3am in the airport with me! Thankew folks =)

Farewell in Malaysia=)

Stayover at YeRing's place was the most memorable farewell I had so far... Well, I can't consider it as "farewell" as there was only 4 of us in total. Uncle, me, Zhu and Yering =) The mighty four! I really love the time we spent at mamak stall in the middle of the night. Quote Yering - "When hunger strikes at 2am, there is mamak to save us all!" Yea. Funny. To tell the truth, it was my first time hanging out with friends at mamak stalls that late. The late-night talking session was enjoyable, but not the... erm... jokes about me! Haha. Nah, actually I rather love it. After all, true friends are the ones who can laugh and talk with you without any inhibitions, aren't they?

Well... this picture is not exactly taken at the mamak stall, but anyways, the mighty four!

How crazy can we be?

Erm.. prize presentation?

This is a total embarassment, but who cares? >.<

Welcome to my wonderful blog! To start with, let me explain the reason behind my blog name. I love Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry". The tune, the lyrics, everything about the song is so beautiful. Beautifully crafted! And so the name - Big Girl. Well, actually not so much of inspiration from Fergie's song but I hope that I'll be a big big girl and be brave in facing my new life in America. It's definitely going to be challenge and I want to share this big girl's world with all my friends around me =)
